April is national Poetry month

For eight years now April has also been the month of Kauai's annual Poetry Festival, founded by Dawn Kawahara and sponsored by the Garden Island Arts Council (GIAC) . For the first time this year's contest theme "Random Acts of Kindness" was also open to the other Hawaiian islands.

There will be two poetry events to celebrate GIAC's Eight Kauai &First Statewide Poetry Fest.

Sunday, April 24, 2005 at 3:00 to 5:00pm
Kilohana, across from Kukui Grove and Chiefess K. Middle school

Reading & Award Ceremony will be held at the intimate and elegant setting of the Living Room at Kilohana, courtesy of Fred Atkins and the kind Kilohana Partners.
You will have a chance to hear the contestants present their poems and celebrate the three award winners and 4 honorable mention winners.
A selection of the poets' books/chapbooks will be displayed for sale.

Talk Story Bookstore,Café &Gallery, downtown Hanapepe

“Random Acts of Kindness” Statewide Poetry Contest Reading in celebration of National Poetry Month will be held at the Bookstore, courtesy of its kind owners Cynthia & Ed.  Poets from Kauai, and island visitors are invited to read original poems on any subject in “round robin”. The owners are also offering an optional East Indian plate dinner at nominal cost.
