"Hey! That looks like YOUR handwriting."

by Linda Harmon on 20 January 2007

I have begun a petition to our representatives in Washington to stop the War and Iraq and the imminent attack on Iran. The text of the petition is below. By signing above, I give permission to have my name reprinted. Return completed petitions to Linda Harmon, P.O.B.257, Hanapepe, HI 96716.

WE THE PEOPLE OF THE 2ND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT OF KAUAI ASK OUR ELECTED CONGRESSMEN AND CONGRESSWOMAN TO STOP FUNDING THE WAR IN IRAQ AND THE
ESCALATION INTO IRAN.

The fall addition of Physicians for Responsibility newsletter, "Prescription for Action" states reasons why a war with Iran is not a good idea:

1. A military attack on Iran would inevitably kill large numbers of innocent people, foster more hatred and condemnation of the US, and dramatically increase the instability of the Middle East.

2. There is time to work for a diplomatic resolution. The CIA estimates if Iran decided to build a nuclear weapon it would take 5 to 10 years.

The new Congress is in a position to stop the President’s drive to not only continue war but to escalate it.

CONGRESS CAN STOP THE WAR EFFORTS BY
STOPPING THE FUNDING OF WAR!

Stop Bush Expansion of War

detail of Bush Wanted poster from www.bushwanted.org

by Linda Harmon 13 January 2007

We might think the election results show dissatisfaction with the war in Iraq and the need for a pullout. On the other hand the Pres. Bush is now promoting an increase of troops in Iraq by 20,000 and again is speaking of the threat Iran poses. There is now an additional warship presence in the Persian Gulf. And yes, a war with Iran is still in the planning. Somehow the administration thinks they can win and thus gain back disaffected American voters.

Remember the words of Scott Ritter, the noted U.N. weapons inspector who went on a speaking engagements around the country before the 2003 war with Iraq stating there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that the charge was just a pretense for starting a war. His assertions were correct. Several weeks ago in a pre- recorded talk on Democracy Now he said the Bush administration is using the same rational for dropping bombs on Iran. A month ago the investigative reporter, Dahr Jamal, recently back from Iran reported to us live here in Kauai that the military is making plans to strike Iran. " Prescriptions for Action", the fall publication of Physicians for Social Responsibility states that citizens can make a difference by writing and calling Congress.

There is still time for a diplomatic resolution says the organization. The CIA estimates that if Iran decided to build a nuclear weapon it would take 5 to 10 years. An attack on Iran would kill large numbers of innocent people, and create even more hatred for the U.S. and dramatically increase the instability of the Middle East. Attack scenarios have shown that military strikes on Iran would not achieve the stated goal of stopping their nuclear program.

Physicians for Social Responsibility recommends that citizens write and phone our congressmen and senators asking them to strongly oppose a war on Iran. Better yet Congress can stop the war in Iraq and prevent one in Iran by stopping the funding for war. If Congress has the will they can stop the war machine.
