Music Concert Postcards

From Jamestown, New York

by Juan Wilson (C) The Gobbler 1999 Spring Bud

My wife, Linda, and I have attended many local music concerts through the 1990's. Most of these shows have been arranged by David Tidquist (doing business as "The Rooneys"). David, besides being a concert promoter, is an artist and sign maker. Who better to create and mail out postcards announcing his shows? For years we have kept these "Rooney" postcards. This article documents the artists and venues featured on some of them.

Rusted Root at Joyce's Keg Room, May 7, 1993

In part this card reads...

"you can't help but get the feeling that it won't be long before we're standing in a long line somewhere outside a huge stadium, hoping for tickets to see & hear these talented people perform."

How prophetic these words were: back in 1993 Rusted Root was a hungry looking band. By hungry I mean hungry for food. They had worn shoes and tattered jeans. You got the impression then that they would have done the Keg Room show for a couple of hot pizzas. The admission cost to this show was $5 at the door. Joyce's Keg Room was, and is still, a blue collar working man's corner bar, but back in the early 90's it was the only Jamestown venue for alternative music.
