Warner Road Witch Tree
Forest sentinel with
hollowed eyes
your gnarled boughs
still reach bright green leaves.

The Chautauqua Watershed passes across our property near this "Witch Tree" which is one of the oldest, largest trees we have. Jack O' Lanterns have perched among its branches on Halloween. This tree was probably spared by loggers several times over the years, because of its contorted shape. It still lives, although several other old warped sisters on the property have recently passed, leaving their shells as homes for small forest animals. This view is from Warner Road between Wiltsie and Wait Corners Roads near the State Forest in the town of North Harmony.
