Jones & Gifford Celeron Pier
Lily pads evoke visions
of frog princes and fairies,
down by the old city marina
among the greasy motorboats.

We are at the beginning of the outlet of Chautauqua Lake, where a wetland meanders from Celeron into Jamestown then becomes the Chadaquoin River. The outlet is a haven for birds and wildlife and remains largely undeveloped. This is the edge of the watershed because the water that flows out from the lake here flows into the Allegheny, Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers to the Gulf of Mexico. The shot was taken from a dock at Holiday Harbor Marina, on Jones & Gifford Avenue in the town of Busti.
